Biography

Kate is a tenacious advocate whose analytical and direct approach provides a strong voice for her clients leading to success in court and in negotiations of all kinds.

Kate was born and raised in the south shore of Nova Scotia. After completing her student clerkship with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, Kate moved to Toronto where she articled at an insurance defence litigation boutique, and after being called to the Ontario Bar in 2018, she gained experience both advancing and defending a variety of civil litigation disputes. Kate has served a diverse clientele to litigate civil actions, human rights complaints, employment disputes, disability insurance, personal injury, family and constitutional law matters. In February 2020, she returned to her home province of Nova Scotia where she has established a thriving family law practice.

Kate’s practice focuses on family law including separation, divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, paternity testing, parenting time, division of property, relocation, and adoption. Her practical and analytical approach allows her to smoothly and effectively resolve her client’s family law matters. She routinely represents the guardian ad litem in child protection proceedings.

Kate has successfully argued a variety of contested motions before the Ontario Superior Court and has conducted hearings before the Ontario Small Claims Court, Ontario Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Ontario Health Services Appeal and Review Board, the Ontario Consent and Capacity Board, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, and the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia Family Division, where she regularly appears.

She also serves as a member of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia Family Division Judicial Liaison Committee for the Western Region of Nova Scotia.
