Biography

Alan is one of Nova Scotia’s most experienced criminal trial lawyers. Over his more-than-40-year career, he has acted in a significant number of high-profile cases. Alan has extensive experience in criminal matters at all levels of trial and appeal courts, and also acts for individuals charged with federal fisheries and drug offences.

Alan graduated from Dalhousie University with an undergraduate degree in business and a bachelor of laws. In 2007, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in recognition of his contribution to the profession and to his community. He is recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in criminal defence.

Alan is a past member of the executive of the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers’ Association and served two years on the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, which recommends appointments to the Provincial and Family Courts of Nova Scotia. Alan has also participated on a regular basis in public education regarding criminal law. He has served on many community boards and associations, and is a past president of the former Bridgewater Golf and Country Club.
