Biography

Matt works with businesses and individuals across Nova Scotia to help them navigate disputes, protect their interests, and move forward with confidence. His practice is focused on commercial and civil litigation and criminal defence, appearing for individuals and businesses at all levels of Court in Nova Scotia, from Small Claims Court to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

He has represented clients in a wide range of matters and areas, including:

  • Contract and shareholder disputes;
  • Construction litigation;
  • Disputes stemming from real estate transactions;
  • Debt collections;
  • Commercial leasing disputes;
  • Intellectual property disputes; and
  • Criminal Code offences

His litigation experience also includes matters involving civil fraud and securities.

Matt’s background extends beyond the courtroom. Before becoming a lawyer, he earned his MBA from Saint Mary’s University and spent five years managing commercial medical technology research and development projects involving multinational healthcare and imaging corporations. His experience working at the intersection of business, technology, and complex stakeholder environments gives him a uniquely practical perspective when advising clients through disputes and litigation.

Matt is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society’s Code of Professional Conduct Committee and was a civil procedure workshop instructor at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.
