Aboriginal Law

While there is no precise definition for Aboriginal Law; generally speaking it is the part of our legal system that affects the relationship between Canada’s First Peoples and non-Aboriginal society.

History and culture strongly influence the way business is run within the Aboriginal community. We understand this dynamic and help the parties involved reach mutually-rewarding business arrangements in the many areas now embraced by Aboriginal Law.

Aboriginal Law issues can involve land claims, treaty rights and natural resources harvesting rights. It also covers traditional areas of business law such as taxation, commercial development, oil and gas rights, labour law, litigation and family law.

Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginals are increasingly developing partnerships and doing business with each other in a variety of different economic realms. To properly represent either Aboriginal people or non-Aboriginals dealing with the community, legal professionals must understand and respect the Aboriginal perspective. We offer legal services within that spirit of understanding.
